WHY SPRAY TAN?
We would all love to have the sun kissed look you get from lying on a tropical island somewhere, or spending hours in the sun. However, the dangers of overexposure are too great to take the risk. Studies have shown that overexposure from the sun can cause leathery or wrinkly skin, premature aging of the skin, and even skin cancer. If you’re looking for a natural glow without the harmful effects of UV exposure, then spray tanning is the way to go. Spray tanning offers you tanning without the worries of health risks.
A new study shows that indoor ultraviolet (UV) tanners are 74 percent more likely to develop melanoma than those who have never tanned indoors. The more time a person has spent tanning indoors, the higher the odds of developing the disease. According to the study, the type of tanning machine used affects melanoma risk – some tanners were 4.44 times as likely as non-tanners to develop melanoma.
Paradise Med Spas of Texas is proud to announce that we now offer a healthy way to keep your skin tanned while avoiding the high risks of UV including: wrinkles, pigmentation, sagging skin, and skin cancer – Our Paradise Airbrush Tans!

Spray Tan Booth vs. Paradise Airbursh Tan
Before experiencing the difference, most people think all spray tans and sunless tanning options are created equally, but that is not accurate.
With a spray booth tan, you need to position yourself properly, and turn as needed to be evenly covered head to toe. This can be tricky for the beginner and, if not done properly, may result in an uneven tan or very light or very dark patches in certain areas of the body. In addition, spray tan booths spray the entire body at the same rate, meaning that the entire body must be the same color of tan, so when selecting a color/darkness for your spray tan, you must choose one that will work and look natural on every part of your body.
With an Airbrush Tan from Paradise Med Spas of Texas, we are able to fully customize the tan based on our customers’ needs. If you prefer to have your entire body the same tone of tan, we can do that; however, if you do not want your face to be as dark as the rest of your body (or tanned at all) or if you want your arms or legs to be darker than the rest of your body, we can do that for you! Your airbrush tan from Paradise Med Spas of Texas is fully customizable and each tan is different based on each customer’s needs!
HOW DO SPRAY TANS WORK WITH THE SKIN?
The skin is made up of two main layers: the epidermis on the outside and the dermis on the inside. Whether you are talking about sun tanning or sunless tanning, the epidermis is where the action occurs. The epidermis is also made up of layers. The deepest layer of the epidermis, called the stratum basale (basal layer), is affected during actual sun tanning. The stratum corneum (horny layer) is the outermost layer of the epidermis – it is this layer that is most affected in the sunless tanning process.
WHAT IS DHA?
By now you know that dihydroxyacetone (DHA) is not a newcomer to the world of tanning. DHA is often derived from sugar beets and sugar cane that created color not through dyes but instead by a natural reaction with the skin’s own amino acids in the top layer of the skin. DHA was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1973 for cosmetic use, but first recognized as a skin coloring agent by German scientists in the 1920’s. Since then, there have been several advancements in the product and the process. DHA-based sunless tanning has been recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation, American Academy of Dermatology Association, Canadian Dermatology Association, and the American Medical Association.
WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM AN AIRBRUSH TAN?
Anyone looking for a healthy glow without wanting exposure to UV light can benefit from airbrush tanning. It can also help even out skin tone and minimize the appearance of spider veins in just one session, making imperfections less noticeable.
HOW LONG DOES AN AIRBRUSH TAN LAST?
Airbrush tans can last various lengths of time based upon how you prepare your skin before the session and how you take care of it afterward. In general, most airbrush tans last between 5 and 10 days. We encourage our clients to moisturize regularly in between tans as well as during tanning. Skin that is well moisturized will retain a tan longer than dry, flaky skin.
Every day, millions of dead skin cells are sloughed off or worn away from the surface of your skin. In fact, every 35 to 40 days, you have an entirely new epidermis. This is why tans from sunless- or self-tanning products will gradually fade – as the dead cells are worn away, so is your tan.
Exfoliation, prolonged water submersion, or heavy sweating can lighten the tan, as these all contribute to rapid dead skin cell turn over.
WHAT DO I WEAR DURING AND IMMEDIATELY AFTER AN AIRBRUSH TAN?
Most customers wear at least a thong style bottom, but you may tan in anything you feel comfortable in. We recommend that it be something dark, due to the bronzer in the solution. For the next 8 hours after you tan, wear loose fitting, dark clothing so your tan can process evenly.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET AN AIRBRUSH TAN?
The best part about airbrush tanning is that it gives immediate results and does not require multiple sessions to build a tan. On average, a full body tan takes 10 minutes to spray. You will leave with beautifully glowing skin due to the bronzer in the solution, but you must stay completely dry for the next 8 hours to allow your tan to fully process.
WHAT PRODUCTS SHOULD I USE TO CARE FOR MY TAN?
Paradise Med Spas of Texas has a wide variety of products that will help you prolong your airbrush tan. When you come in for your airbrush tan, please consult with one of our tanning specialists for our product recommendations. AVOID any products containing retinol, alpha hydroxy or salicylic acid as well as any products that contain alcohol as one of the first six ingredients. These ingredients will increase cell turnover and fade your tan. We do not recommend using bar soaps.
HOW OFTEN CAN I GET AN AIRBRUSH TAN?
On average with proper exfoliation we recommend every 7-10 days. However, some customers prefer to be tanned more often or not as often. For the appropriate length of time between your spray tans, consult with one of our spray tanning specialists on the appropriate time frame that will work best for you and your tanning goals!
